Haiku Poems – Howling through Trees

Wind touches my skin,

and I shiver as winter

unravels my clothes.

I hear souls howling

through the trees in search of fruits

now out of their reach.

The decaying pelt

of once succulent berries –

dried and unwanted.

Frigid ice and cold

crush and numb this whirling pain –

a storm that must end.

Bones press against flesh

as death’s claws spread my rib cage –

filling up my heart.

Life ends; no more cares.

I leave my casing; a soul

dispersing in air.

  3. This is stripped down, stark and beautiful. Just the way I like ’em. The second haiku is my favourite; you really have a way of painting pictures with words. The illustration is a great match.

  4. People are like berries, and one day we all become unwanted…or bird food.

    An excellent set of Haiku.
Did you both work on them?

  6. These are very chilly. And winter is a dirty old man/woman. He/she should keep their hands off your clothes.

  8. Chilling haiku. I might remember it when I walk a narrow path through the brambles in a cold winter day, all alone 😉
