Can You Get Over Me?

Put daggers in my heart and twist knives into my spine,

rip my skin away from the flesh,

and drain my blood, drop by drop.

Cut me into two halves, and then cut those halves further.

Take my eyes away.

Discard them on your way home.

Roast my flesh in a fiery rage.

Fill my soul with hatred—cage it, control it, confine it, and give me away to the lust of hell.

And tell me now—does that help you get over me?

This is to all those who think they can inflict pain upon the ones they love, to avenge the pain that was caused to them. The opposite of love is not hate, it is apathy. You don’t hate the person you once loved, and no matter how hard you try, their pain will never soothe yours. Anger and resentment are dangerous things, as much as they destroy others, they destroy us, too. Forgive; you’ll sleep better.

  1. Forgiveness will make you sleep better, and anger is one hell of an alarm clock.

  2. Powerful! It is amazing how something that seems easy (forgiveness) is actually one of the hardest things to do. Love the poem.

    Cheers! ^_^

  4. I can forgive someone, but it’s another thing to be able to forget. Just because you choose not to carry any anger or hatred towards that person who had hurt you, doesn’t mean you can ever trust that person again or even repair the relationship.

  5. Time is the more realistic healer. Either that or a lobotomy.

  6. So Eloquently put. Love and Hate are the opposite of each other but still in the same circus. Apathy and indifference are not in that circus at all….they have their own tent. BUT the real question is not can I get over you……for my and my ego… is can I get over Me? ~~dru~~

  7. Words wrapped in wisdom here. Anger is the worst thing ever, it makes us helpless, succumbing to it. But, for me, I can say, I forgive, but I NEVER forget….

Loved Rose’s illustration..she is extremely talented!
